Today on ‘Tavis Smiley,’ Mr. Smiley recorded an interview with the Pulitzer Prize winning jazz musician Wynton Marsalis. Wynton Marsalis appeared on ‘Tavis Smiley’ to help promote his new CD ‘addressStreetCongo Square.’ During the interview Wynton Marsalis and Tavis Smiley discussed Mr. Marsalis’ passion for education as he is the co-founder and artistic director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Program.

Wynton Marsalis also talked about his new album. He described it as “We are rejoining with the spirit of African Music.” The album called ‘Congo Square’ got its name from the spirit of Congo Square in New Orleans in which from 1730 until around 1857, the Congo Square in New Orleans was the only place that Africans were allowed to play the music that they had learned in Africa before being brought to the United States.
